Relations....Not in my field of expertise.

One of the passages that I found interesting was from The Things They Carried on page 35. It explained what a soldier goes through once he goes AWOL, away from his squad. He would get treated nicely by a nurse and feel loved and great. Then when he returns back to his squad, he would be ready for battle. He's ready for battle because he says, "...that peace, man, it felt so good it hurt. I want to hurt it back." This passage caught my eye because it has an oxymoron in it. Does this soldier want to go back into battle so that he can return back to that caring nurse? Or, does he want to go back into battle because he missed all that action and bloodshed. I can't really connect with this feeling, but I do know this, when I want something that I haven't had in a long time, for example a delicious burger, I want it NOW! ^_______^

and what if you knew that delicious burger had to be won through killing someone else for it- that there would be a battle that you had to fight for it before you could enjoy it? Is that what the soldier who left the nurse to return to battle meant? in order to enjoy the nurse and the peace, he had to finish the battle? In order to enjoy the burger, we have to fight for it in some way? I don't know, but that passage stood out to me, too.
